Therapeutic Play

Non-directive play for children and young adults

A Therapeutic Play session is one hour long, held once a week at a time agreed by the parents/carers, the child/young person and the Therapeutic Play Practitioner.

During the session the child/young person is allowed to use the play/art materials provided however s/he chooses to use within certain limits of safety.

The Therapeutic Play Practitioner reflects back what the child/young person is doing and engages with her/him in non-directive play if invited.

This allows the child/young person to explore feelings and situations in her/his own time and method, gain awareness of her/his inner world and how s/he impacts the world around her/him.

Katy says:

“I’m so glad we found Bernadett. She creates such a warm, supportive atmosphere and my daughter felt so comfortable with her.  Bernadett gave her the space to talk about her worries and suggested some ways of coping with them. She loved using the art materials too. With Bernadett’s help she managed to go away on a school trip, which has hugely improved her confidence.”
